BRONCHIOLITIS IN CHILDREN

Bronchiolitis is a lower respiratory tract infection, most commonly affecting children under 2 years of age, usually caused by viruses.

• Through respiratory droplets from coughing or sneezing
• Through hands or objects contaminated with nasal or throat mucus

• Rapid breathing, chest retractions
• Wheezing, stridor
• Poor feeding or refusal to feed
• Bluish lips, lethargy

👉 TAKE THE CHILD TO THE HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY if any of the above signs are present.

• Breastfeeding, drink plenty of water
• Nasal drops - saline nasal aspirator
• Keep the child warm; avoid cigarette smoke
• Reduce fever with paracetamol when temperature is >38.5°C

• Wash hands frequently
• Avoid contact with people who have cough or fever
• Breastfeed infants
• Fully vaccinated
