Hong Ngoc Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital hosts the scientific symposium “Artificial Intelligence Applications in Screening and Early Detection of Breast and Thyroid Cancer”

02-01-2026

On January 10th, 2026, Hong Ngoc Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital, in collaboration with the Vietnam Society of Breast Imaging and BeamWorks, will host the scientific symposium “Artificial Intelligence Applications in Screening and Early Detection of Breast and Thyroid Cancer” gathering leading experts from Vietnam and South Korea.

The event gathers distinguished experts from leading medical institutions and universities in Vietnam and South Korea in the fields of Oncology and Diagnostic Imaging. Aimed at updating AI-based diagnostic approaches for breast and thyroid cancer, the symposium is expected to make a significant contribution to further enhancing the quality of cancer diagnosis in Vietnam and to expanding access to optimal treatment opportunities for patients.

An international academic forum gathering leading experts from Vietnam and South Korea

The symposium “Artificial Intelligence Applications in Screening and Early Detection of Breast and Thyroid Cancer” is organized in the context of the rising incidence of breast and thyroid cancer, with a noticeable trend toward younger age of onset, underscoring the urgent need for earlier and more accurate diagnostic solutions. The application of artificial intelligence in diagnostic imaging is regarded as a critical strategic direction, supporting physicians in the detection of subtle lesions and thereby enhancing the accuracy of comprehensive risk assessment.

Given this significance, the event is expected to attract a large number of physicians and specialists in oncology and diagnostic imaging, creating a multidisciplinary academic forum that is open, dynamic, and highly practice oriented. The participation of experts from multiple disciplines is anticipated to provide practical and up to date perspectives for Vietnamese physicians.

Three in-depth sessions: AI applications in breast ultrasound, thyroid ultrasound, and mammography

The symposium “Artificial Intelligence Applications in Screening and Early Detection of Breast and Thyroid Cancer” is scheduled to feature 11 in-depth scientific presentations, focusing on an in-depth analysis of the role of artificial intelligence in cancer screening, early detection, and clinical decision support for breast and thyroid cancer. The scientific content is structured into three main sessions, each dedicated to AI applications in breast ultrasound, thyroid ultrasound, and mammography, respectively, providing a systematic overview of the continuum from screening and early diagnosis to optimal treatment planning. This comprehensive program is regarded as highly practice oriented, effectively bridging technological innovation with the growing need to enhance the quality of cancer diagnosis and treatment in contemporary clinical practice.

The symposium will comprise three main sessions, featuring a total of 11 in-depth scientific presentations.

In the first session, themed “AI Solutions in Breast Ultrasound,” speakers will focus on analyzing the role of ultrasound in the early detection of breast cancer, while clarifying how artificial intelligence supports physicians in lesion detection and classification, thereby reducing reliance on subjective assessment. The core highlight of this session is the presentation “AI application in early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer” by Assoc. Prof. Won Hwa Kim, MD, PhD ( Diagnostic Radiology Department, Chilgok Hospital, Kyungpook National University). Complementing this topic, Dr. Le Thi Thuy Trang, Special Level II, Deputy Head of the Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology Department, Hong Ngoc Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital, will present “Breast Ultrasound practicing with AI application at Hong Ngoc – Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital - Clinical cases.”

AI-integrated breast ultrasound has been routinely implemented at Hong Ngoc General Hospital, supporting physicians in delivering faster and more efficient diagnoses.

In the field of thyroid ultrasonography, artificial intelligence also plays a critical role, with the capability to assess malignancy risk and support physicians in clinical decision-making. A key highlight of this session is the presentation “Diagnostic imaging of thyroid disease” delivered by Dr. Trinh Tu Tam, MD, PhD, Head of the Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology Department, Hong Ngoc Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital. The presentation provides an in-depth analysis of the current imaging approaches to thyroid disease, ranging from ultrasound and fine-needle aspiration cytology to other adjunctive diagnostic techniques, while elucidating how artificial intelligence enhances risk stratification accuracy and supports the selection of appropriate surveillance or interventional strategies tailored to each patient.

Content addressing the application of artificial intelligence in mammography and early-stage breast cancer management is regarded as one of the key highlights of the symposium. Within this session, Dr. Do Huy Hoang, MD, MSc (Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology Department, Hong Ngoc Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital) will present an analysis entitled “Clinical cases with AI application mammography at Hong Ngoc – Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital.” Through real-world clinical cases, the presentation underscores the value of artificial intelligence in supporting clinical decision-making, particularly in the context of early breast cancer screening, where diagnostic accuracy and consistency in mammographic interpretation are of critical importance.

Concluding the scientific program are two in-depth presentations on breast-conserving surgery, drawing on clinical practice experience from South Korea and Vietnam, and highlighting the critical role of accurate diagnostic imaging and early detection in treatment planning. These shared experiences demonstrate that artificial intelligence extends beyond the screening phase, contributing to the formulation of optimal, patient-specific treatment strategies.

The symposium “Artificial Intelligence Applications in Screening and Early Detection of Breast and Thyroid Cancer” is not only an in-depth academic forum where domestic and international experts exchange knowledge and clinical experience, but also represents a tangible step in Hong Ngoc General Hospital’s strategy to advance high-technology medicine and expand international collaboration.

Through its collaboration with BeamWorks and relevant professional organizations, Hong Ngoc General Hospital expects the symposium to enhance the professional capacity of its medical staff, promote the standardization of diagnostic workflows, and progressively integrate advanced artificial intelligence solutions into clinical practice in Vietnam. This initiative is regarded as an important foundation toward improving early detection effectiveness, optimizing prognosis, and delivering comprehensive and sustainable cancer care in the coming years.
