Hong Ngoc General Hospital, in collaboration with Samsung Medical Center, will host the symposium titled “Latest Advances in Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment and Management”
On August 16th, 2025, Hong Ngoc General Hospital, in collaboration with Samsung Medical Center, the Vietnam Cancer Association and the Vietnam Medical Association, will host a scientific symposium on “ Latest Updates On Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment and Management”
The seminar gathers leading experts from Samsung Medical Center - one of South Korea’s pioneering institutions in cancer research and treatment - along with oncologists from major hospitals across Vietnam. With the aim of sharing international best practices, updating advanced treatment methods, and promoting comprehensive post-treatment care strategies, this conference is expected to serve as a key milestone in enhancing breast cancer treatment capacity in Vietnam.
Leading Korean medical institution comes to Vietnam: Bridging global knowledge in breast cancer treatment
Samsung Medical Center (SMC) is one of South Korea’s most comprehensive medical institutions, renowned for its groundbreaking advancements in cancer treatment, particularly in the field of breast cancer. Guided by the “patient-centered” medical philosophy, SMC has established an integrated system covering diagnosis, treatment, and post-treatment rehabilitation to achieve optimal outcomes and improve patients' quality of life.
The symposium “ Latest Updates On Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment and Management ” will take place on August 16th at Hong Ngoc - Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital
At this symposium, a team of experts from Samsung Medical Center will present in-depth reports highlighting advanced medical trends in breast cancer treatment in South Korea. This is also an opportunity for doctors and delegates to gain access and update their knowledge with key clinical insights from South Korea - a country with one of the highest breast cancer survival rates in the world.
Notably, the symposium is expected to attract a large number of oncologists and medical professionals, creating a dynamic, open, and highly applicable academic forum. It will also serve as a vital bridge between international medical knowledge and local clinical practice, playing an important role in strengthening breast cancer treatment capabilities across Vietnam’s healthcare institutions in Vietnam.
Key updates on breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and post-treatment care
The symposium “Latest Updates On Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment and Management ” is expected to feature eight in-depth presentations, focusing on three main areas: diagnosis, treatment, and breast cancer management. This is a comprehensive and personalized treatment protocol that offers hope and improves the quality of life for breast cancer patients.
One of the key opening presentations of the symposium will be delivered by Assoc. Prof. Ji Soo Choi, MD, PhD (Department of Radiology and Center for Imaging Science, Samsung Medical Center, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine). Dr. Choi reported on the critical role of imaging modalities, including ultrasound, mammography, and MRI, in detecting small lesions, staging disease, personalizing treatment plans, and monitoring for recurrence after treatment. These are crucial tools that enable doctors to make accurate and timely decisions throughout a patient's treatment journey.
During the treatment phase, Prof. Jonghan Yu, MD, PhD (Chair, Division of Breast Surgery, Department of Surgery, Samsung Medical Center, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine) also analyzed emerging trends in breast cancer surgery aimed at improving treatment outcomes, reducing complications, and enhancing patients’ quality of life. Additionally, detailed updates on systemic treatment and radiation therapy will be presented by Assoc. Prof. Hee Kyung Ahn, MD, PhD (Chair of the 10th and 11th Clinical Practice Guideline Committees, Korean Breast Cancer Society) and Assoc. Prof. Haeyoung Kim, MD, PhD (Member of the American Association for Cancer Research).
Concluding the series of presentations is a session on post-treatment rehabilitation delivered by Prof. Ji Hye Hwang, MD, PhD (Former President, Korean Society of Cancer Rehabilitation). The presentation emphasizes key factors that support patients in making a full return to normal life after treatment.
Strategic collaboration, strengthened international medical connection, and enhanced quality of patient care
According to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO) and GLOBOCAN, in 2020, breast cancer accounted for approximately 25–30% of all cancer cases among women and was the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in females in many countries. In Vietnam, breast cancer also ranks first in terms of new cases among women, surpassing cervical, lung, and colorectal cancers. Notably, breast cancer is increasingly affecting younger populations and presenting with more complex patterns, highlighting the urgent need to strengthen early detection, treatment, and long-term follow-up care.
More than just an academic forum, this seminar also serves as a catalyst for deeper collaboration between Hong Ngoc General Hospital and international partners, laying the foundation for the specialized and advanced development of oncology at Hong Ngoc, applying multimodal treatment approaches and integrating advanced diagnostic technologies with a highly specialized medical team to provide comprehensive, internationally standardized care for cancer patients.
