Hong Ngoc General Hospital has entered into a partnership with the Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Center, a globally renowned ophthalmology institution under the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, to expand remote multidisciplinary consultations and advance key ophthalmic research initiatives.
On May 26 in Moscow, the Russian Federation, Hong Ngoc General Hospital and the Federal State Autonomous Institution “S.N. Fyodorov National Medical Research Center - Interdisciplinary Scientific and Technical Complex ‘Eye Microsurgery’” formally signed a cooperation agreement in the presence of Sergey Aleksandrovich Korotkov, Adviser to the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation.
A strategic partnership with a world-renowned ophthalmology center
Affiliated with the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Center is recognized as one of the world's leading and most comprehensive ophthalmology institutions. The center is renowned for its expertise in managing complex ocular disorders, rare eye diseases, and highly specialized microsurgical procedures. Over the past 15 years, it has developed and integrated more than 600 innovative medical technologies into routine clinical practice, while maintaining a leading role in ophthalmic research, specialist training, and the transfer of advanced ophthalmic technologies.
This partnership with a world-leading ophthalmology institution underscores Hong Ngoc General Hospital's strategic investment in the comprehensive development of its ophthalmology specialty. It also reinforces the hospital's commitment to advancing research, strengthening professional training, and enhancing its capacity to manage complex ophthalmic conditions.
Strengthening collaboration in research and the treatment of complex ophthalmic diseases
To prepare for the transfer of advanced expertise and technologies from the Russian Federation, Hong Ngoc General Hospital has invested comprehensively in human resources, infrastructure, and medical equipment. The hospital is supported by a team of more than 250 highly qualified medical specialists with extensive clinical experience and advanced professional training. It also incorporates advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies from leading healthcare systems in Germany, Japan, Switzerland, and other developed countries.
Among its advanced ophthalmic technologies are the Casia 2 anterior segment OCT system, which enables detailed preoperative and postoperative assessment of complex ophthalmic surgeries, and the Sirius Plus corneal topography system, which provides comprehensive multidimensional analysis of the entire cornea.
The hospital has also been at the forefront of adopting advanced ophthalmic techniques, including selective lamellar keratoplasty performed using the Femto LDV Z8 femtosecond laser system. In addition, Dr. Dinh Thi Hoang Anh, PhD, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, is the inventor of several patented techniques in corneal surgery and pupilloplasty. These innovations have been officially recognized by the Ministry of Health and the Government of the Russian Federation and are protected under international patent frameworks.
Hong Ngoc General Hospital is at the forefront of integrating advanced technologies into ophthalmic diagnostics and modern eye surgery.
Over the years, the Department of Ophthalmology and Hong Ngoc General Hospital have achieved a number of notable milestones and international recognitions. Among them are certification as a Center of Excellence for Advanced and Personalized Keratoconus Management by SCHWIND (Germany) and recognition by Ziemer (Switzerland) as the first institution in Vietnam to perform laser-assisted corneal transplantation using the Femto LDV Z8 system.
Under the bilateral cooperation framework, both institutions are committed to narrowing the gap between scientific advances and clinical practice. Key areas of collaboration include the exchange of professional expertise, technology transfer, and specialist training; the implementation of joint scientific research projects and the clinical application of innovative medical technologies; as well as the expansion of remote multidisciplinary consultations through digital platforms connecting international experts.
The visit opens new opportunities for deeper collaboration
Building on the strong partnership between the two institutions, Hong Ngoc General Hospital will expand remote multidisciplinary consultations for a range of complex ophthalmic conditions, including ocular cancers, corneal diseases, and vitreoretinal disorders. Leveraging its expertise in microsurgery and the treatment of rare diseases, the Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Center will work closely with Vietnamese specialists to review clinical cases, conduct in-depth assessments, and recommend advanced treatment solutions tailored to each individual patient.
Through this collaboration, patients in Vietnam will gain greater access to world-class ophthalmic expertise without having to travel abroad, significantly reducing both the time and costs associated with overseas treatment.
