An Overview of the ENT Masterclass® International Training Program in Vietnam
The ENT Masterclass® program garnered significant attention from the Vietnamese medical community and government leaders. The event was honored to welcome Dr. Hà Anh Đức, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management; British Ambassador Iain Frew; Dr. Nguyễn Đình Hưng, Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Health; Dr Nguyễn Đình Phúc, President of the Hanoi and Northern Provinces Society of Otorhinolaryngology
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Dr. Hà Anh Đức, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management shared: "This is a prestigious training program, particularly significant given that 20% of the population faces issues related to the head and neck, with 10% at risk of developing cancer while maxillofacial surgery is a challenging field that requires high expertise and skill, both in terms of medical knowledge and aesthetics. This conference brings together many international professors and experts, demonstrating the effective collaboration between Hong Ngoc Hospital, Facing The World, and global healthcare organizations."

Recognizing the efforts of Hong Ngoc General Hospital and Facing The World in successfully organizing ENT Masterclass® in Vietnam, British Ambassador Iain Frew stated: "This is a significant event. As the UK Ambassador, I am very proud to witness an event that brings together expertise from the UK and others here in Vietnam, with a focus on ENT medicine. The UK will always support and promote healthcare collaborations with Vietnam to address healthcare challenges for the community together”.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. Nguyễn Đình Hưng, Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Health, shared: "International cooperation is the shortest path to global integration, learn advanced, high-tech techniques from other countries to serve the people of Vietnam. The goal of ensuring that the Vietnamese people trust the healthcare system in the capital and no longer need to seek treatment abroad, this is the fastest way to achieve that. In Hanoi in general and at Hong Ngoc Hospital in particular, there are frequent international conferences with advanced countries such as Germany, Japan, the UK, France, the USA, and others. As a result, advanced techniques from these countries are quickly disseminated in Vietnam."

Following the opening ceremony, Professor M. Shahed Quraishi OBE, former President of the Royal Society of Medicine's Otolaryngology section, recounted the "Global Knowledge Sharing Journey" of ENT Masterclass®. He emphasized: "ENT Masterclass has been held in 15 countries across 4 continents. However, we have never organized it in Southeast Asia. After much consideration, we chose Vietnam and held it at Hong Ngoc General Hospital. In this program, we learn from Vietnamese doctors how to treat patients, and you also learn from us in return. The most important aspect of ENT Masterclass is that we can communicate with each other using the 'medical language.' Although the communication language may be either English or Vietnamese, in medicine, we still share a common language."

New Advances in Head and Neck Surgery and Otorhinolaryngology Shared at ENT Masterclass® In the first workshop session, a notable focus was on voice preservation in thyroid surgery. Professor Ahmet O. IKIZ from the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies presented on "Nerve Monitoring in Thyroid Surgery" emphasizing the application of nerve monitoring devices to enhance precision and reduce the risk of nerve injury.
Following this topic, Master of Science and Resident Doctor Nguyễn Xuân Quang, Head of the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Hong Ngoc General Hospital, shared the technique of "Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Control in Transoral Vestibular Endoscopic Thyroidectomy". This modern technique offers several advantages, effectively addressing tumors, minimizing laryngeal nerve damage, and leaving no scars, thereby ensuring maximum aesthetic outcomes. Dr. Quang noted, “Nerve monitoring devices, as well as the transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy approach, have been widely applied in thyroid surgeries at Hong Ngoc, helping to reduce the risk of nerve paralysis complications, especially with large tumors.”
Dr Nguyễn Xuân Quang, Hong Ngoc General Hospital, presented a report at the conference.
In addition, the conference will feature many in-depth presentations on the topics of the nose, sinuses, and ears.
Additionally, Professor Claire Hopkins, former President of the British Rhinological Society, presented a new technique on "Managing Olfactory Disorders", which enhances the accuracy of diagnosis and treatment.
