On July 20, 2026, Hong Ngoc General Hospital welcomed a delegation of experts from Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan for a hospital visit, working session and jointly organized scientific symposium titled “Advances in Cancer Treatment” The program marked a new step forward in the partnership between the two institutions, opening further opportunities for professional exchange and contributing to improved quality of care for patients with cancer in Vietnam.

Hong Ngoc General Hospital and Taipei Veterans General Hospital strengthen cooperation in cancer treatment 

Oncology is a rapidly evolving field, with new treatment approaches being continuously updated. Therefore, strengthening cooperation with leading medical centers around the world not only enables doctors to access the latest advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment, but also creates more opportunities for patients to benefit from medical innovation. This has also been one of the key directions for professional development that Hong Ngoc General Hospital has prioritized over the years. 

Building on this direction, Hong Ngoc General Hospital welcomed a delegation of experts from Taipei Veterans General Hospital, one of Taiwan’s leading medical centers with strong capabilities in cancer treatment, research and medical training.

The program was attended by hospital leaders and specialists from both institutions. Representing Hong Ngoc General Hospital were Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Long, MSc, General Director of Hong Ngoc Group; Mr. Van Tuan Nhat, Deputy General Director of the Group; and specialists including Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong, MD, PhD, Head of the Oncology Department; Mr. Trinh Tu Tam, MD, PhD, Head of the Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology Department; and Nguyen Kim Luu, MD, PhD, Director of the Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Center. 

The delegation from Taipei Veterans General Hospital was led by Prof. Chiu-Su Liu, MD, PhD, Director of the International Medical Center and Head of the Organ Transplantation Surgery Division, together with experts in neurosurgery, boron neutron capture therapy, immune cell therapy and medical oncology. 

As part of the working session, Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Linh, MD, MSc, representing the Oncology Department, provided an overview of the department’s care model, clinical capabilities and cancer treatment services currently implemented at Hong Ngoc General Hospital.

During the working session, the two hospitals discussed several key areas of cooperation, including human resource training, scientific research, remote consultation through telemedicine, expert exchange and academic networking. They also expressed a shared commitment to developing a long-term coordination mechanism for multidisciplinary consultation on complex cases. 

This provides an important foundation for Hong Ngoc General Hospital to further expand international cooperation, gradually enhance the quality of cancer treatment and offer more options for patients with cancer.

Scientific symposium on recent advances in cancer treatment 

Following the working session between the leaders of the two hospitals, the scientific symposium titled “Advances in Cancer Treatment” was held, bringing together hospital leaders, leading experts and a large number of doctors from multiple specialties across both institutions. 

In her opening remarks at the symposium, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong, MD, PhD, Head of the Oncology Department at Hong Ngoc General Hospital, emphasized: “There is no single treatment protocol suitable for all patients. Continuously updating medical advances and strengthening professional exchange with international oncology centers will contribute to improving treatment quality and creating more opportunities for patients.”

Following the opening session, experts from the two hospitals delivered a series of in-depth presentations, providing updates on emerging trends in cancer diagnosis and treatment currently being applied at major oncology centers. The topics reflected modern treatment approaches centered on individualized care, multimodal therapy and the application of advanced technologies to improve treatment efficacy, reduce adverse effects and enhance patients’ quality of life. 

In addition to updating recent medical advances, the speakers also shared valuable clinical practice experience, ranging from treatment strategy selection to the real-world implementation of advanced techniques. 

Assoc. Prof. Yi-Wei Chen, MD, PhD, Head of the Division of Boron Neutron Capture Therapy at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, presented a specialized topic on the application of boron neutron capture therapy in the treatment of recurrent malignant brain tumors and head and neck cancers. The presentation provided updates on recent clinical outcomes and shared experience in implementing one of the advanced radiation therapy techniques currently applied in Taiwan.

Representing Hong Ngoc Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quang, MD, MSc, Resident Doctor, Head of the Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery Department, presented a specialized topic on head and neck cancer surgery at the hospital. His presentation introduced the treatment workflow, multidisciplinary coordination model and practical experience in managing these malignancies.

Continuing the program, Mr. Qiao Nan, MSc, an immune cell therapy specialist at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, provided an update on recent advances in immune cell therapy for liver cancer. The presentation focused on the potential of immune-based therapies in individualized treatment, contributing to expanded treatment options for eligible patients.

In the next presentation, Prof. Hao-Wei Teng, MD, PhD, from the Medical Oncology Center for Colorectal Cancer at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, shared updates on systemic therapy for colorectal cancer, covering trends in treatment regimen selection and experience in optimizing treatment efficacy based on each patient’s individual characteristics.

Concluding the scientific presentation session, Assoc. Prof. Juin-I Lai, MD, PhD, from the Medical Oncology Center for Urologic Cancers at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, introduced recent advances in systemic therapy for urologic cancers. He also shared experience in applying modern treatment approaches to improve disease control and survival outcomes.

In addition to the presentation sessions, the symposium also devoted significant time to academic exchange between experts from the two hospitals. A wide range of clinical scenarios, experience in selecting treatment strategies, indications for advanced techniques and the potential application of new approaches in Vietnam were actively discussed. 

These multidimensional exchanges not only helped clarify specialized clinical issues, but also laid the groundwork for future training, research and international case consultation activities.

Through this cooperation program, Hong Ngoc General Hospital and Taipei Veterans General Hospital continued to strengthen professional connections and expand collaboration in training, research, consultation and transfer of medical techniques, thereby contributing to improved treatment quality and creating more opportunities for patients with cancer.
