Compassionate care 2025 – Hong Ngoc accompanies and supports elderly health

Nearly 500 elderly residents aged 70 and above in Da Phuc Commune, Hanoi, received free medical examinations and medications directly from the doctors and healthcare professionals of Hong Ngoc General Hospital on August 27–28, 2025. This initiative is part of the annual charitable program “Compassionate care,” organized by Hong Ngoc.

Providing free medical care and medication for the elderly

“Compassionate care” is an annual charitable program initiated and sustained by Hong Ngoc General Hospital for the past 10 years. In 2025, the program was carried out in Da Phuc Commune with the goal of providing comprehensive healthcare for the elderly, while spreading a meaningful message of gratitude to the older generations. The initiative also served as a practical activity to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) and the 35th International Day of Older Persons (October 1).

Da Phuc Commune is home to more than 21,000 elderly residents, including over 5,200 people aged 70 and above - a group requiring special attention to improve longevity and quality of healthy life. Recognizing this urgent healthcare need, Hong Ngoc General Hospital’s “Compassionate care 2025” program partnered with Da Phuc Commune’s initiative, “Free medical examination, consultation, and medication for residents aged 70 and above.” This collaboration not only provided practical support for the local community but also contributed to the broader goal of enhancing population health and building a strong, sustainable community.

Over a two day period, from August 27 to 28, 2025, nearly 30 doctors and nurses from Hong Ngoc directly provided medical examinations at Bac Phu Medical Station, serving nearly 500 elderly residents. The program was organized with six specialty clinics: General Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Otolaryngology (ENT), Ultrasound, and Electrocardiography (ECG).

Specifically, residents received blood pressure measurements and comprehensive health examinations to enable early detection of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and hypertension. Ophthalmologic screening was provided to identify cataracts and retinal disorders, while dental and ENT examinations helped detect common chronic infections in the elderly. In addition, ultrasound and electrocardiography (ECG) were performed to screen for liver, kidney, and cardiovascular conditions - diseases that often remain silent and difficult to detect through routine examinations.

Dr. Trinh Van Dai, Department of Otolaryngology, Hong Ngoc General Hospital, shared:

“Through our examinations, we found that the majority of elderly patients suffer from common chronic conditions such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disorders, and declining vision. Many of them have limited access to regular health check-ups, which increases the risk of undetected illnesses. Our goal is not only to provide comprehensive health assessments and early detection, but also to extend care and compassion from the Hong Ngoc team. This is our way of honoring the older generation and spreading a spirit of kindness within the community.”

After the examinations, residents received free medications tailored to their health conditions and were provided with electronic health records to facilitate long-term personal health management. This initiative not only delivered immediate benefits but also helped establish a sustainable foundation for community healthcare.
